About our sport

Croquet at its most basic is a sport played on  grass using six hoops, four balls and two mallets. It's a mix of snooker and chess, but on grass. The winner is the side that can get both their balls through the hoops before the other. It is a game of skill and strategy, with precision and touch as important as hitting that long shot across the lawn.

In Association Croquet players make 'breaks' just like in snooker. Only one player is on the lawn at a time, whilst the other sits to one side, anxiously watching for a mistake and their turn to play. In Golf Croquet, each player takes it in turns to play a single stroke. Played by the top players it is very competitive and challenging but at club level it is easy to learn and pick up the basics.

Club play is very social and beginners sessions are held regularly.  Why not try a game at your local club? See our Members page for more information.

About the WCF

The World Croquet Federation is the international governing body for the sport of croquet. The WCF's main function is to act as the overall co-ordinating body for the sport. As well as managing the sport in accordance with the wishes of its Members, its main responsibilities are to organise World Championships, facilitate development of the games and to manage the infrastructure of the sport. This includes controlling and updating the GC Rules and AC Laws, maintaining the Ranking Systems, and ensuring all other policies and regulatory documents are maintained and fit for purpose.

The WCF is a members' organisation, comprising national associations that are recognised by the WCF as having control of the sport in their own countries.  Certain conditions are specified for membership and, provided that these are met, application for membership can be made at any time.

The WCF organises World Championships in Association Croquet (AC) and Golf Croquet (GC). These include individual championships, team championships, Women's AC and GC individual championships and Over-60 and Under-21 GC individual championships.
